How to Self Critique Your Watercolor Paintings and Why It's Important
Sep 29, 2021Do you ever feel like you're constantly looking to other people to decide whether your artwork is good or if it's not? Learning to examine your own painting and give yourself an honest critique is an important skill as you grow and develop as an artist.
In this week’s video, I look back on a painting of mine and appraise it using three steps that I recommend when critiquing your own work:
- Wait 24 hours before you critique and finalize your painting.
- Be honest with yourself.
- Recognize both the positives and the negatives about the painting.
The journey of being an artist is to find bits of growth and also to find skills that you want to improve on. Learning how to critique your work can be hugely impactful to your continual improvement as an artist.
