A Special Commission for a Dear Friend - Full Tutorial

Jun 15, 2026

Today we are going to paint a beach scene that I painted for a friend on her 45th birthday.

I'm going to walk you through my process and talk through my color mixing and timing from the beginning to the end.

Those of you who follow me closely will notice right away that I'm taping my paper down. This is different than my normal process of wetting the front and back. Today I'm going to be painting on dry paper because there are some hard edges that I want to preserve even in the light values of the scene.

For a full description and demonstration of this painting, watch this week's video!
